Days for Girls ministry addresses the need of millions of girls and women around the globe who struggle for lack of access to feminine hygiene solutions. Not having sanitary supplies means DAYS without school, DAYS without income, DAYS without leaving the house. Girls use leaves, mattress stuffing, newspaper, corn husks, rocks, anything they can find...but still miss up to 2 months of school every year. This challenge is a surprising but instrumental key to social change for women all over the world. The poverty cycle can be broken when girls stay in school. A solution is sewing feminine hygiene kits for girls. Click here to go to the Days for Girls organization website to learn more about this ministry. Listen to the TED TALK by founder Celeste Mergens (click the “media” tab to find TED Talk and other great videos).
Throughout the year, we will host Days for Girls Sew & Go events to make hygiene kits for the girls at Blessings of Joy Orphanage School in Uganda. Most tasks involve sewing, but not all. There is a job for everyone, from cutting patterns, preparing materials, to sewing and assembling kits. If you have a sewing machine or serger, bring it! Join us for an hour or stay the duration.
