Laura Dester Shelter

Mission:
The mission of the Laura Dester Shelter is to provide and maintain a safe, temporary placement for children who have been removed from their homes. The Shelter serves children ages infant through 17 years old. The children have been victims of neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, environmental neglect, medical neglect, abandonment and general deprivation of the basic needs for children to grow and thrive. The staff of the Shelter works to understand each child's immediate needs until arrangements are made for their continuing to care elsewhere.

Volunteering:
There are many ways to get involved ranging from making fleece blankets, gardening with children in the therapeutic gardens, or becoming a regular weekly volunteer.

Every Friday from 9:00am – 10:00am, in May – October, Redeemer hosts the Therapeutic/Play Garden Ministry for children ages 18 months – 12 years. Helpers are needed on a weekly or even monthly basis.

In the fall we will be building 15 raised gardens at the new facility. Interested in getting involved? Contact Elizabeth Hand at eliz@inbox.com.
