Jonah Bible Study

Too often, the whale has gotten all of the attention.

And while it’s true that Jonah’s encounter with the “great fish” is one of the more memorable parts of this ancient story, it is important to remember that the big fish actually plays a fairly small role in this great story.

You see, Jonah’s story isn’t about the fish—instead, it’s about a knock-down, drag-out fight between Jonah and God. It’s about a man who runs as far as He can from what God is calling him to do, and it’s about a God graciously and persistently keeps after him. It’s a beautifully told story about what happens when God refuses to fit into the box we want to put Him in. It may be thousands of years old, but even today it can push and teach us, helping us both ask and answer hard questions about the God we serve and His call on all of our lives.
